Austar forced to take local ABC off air

05 Nov, 2009 03:17 PM
Austar pay-TV subscribers stopped receiving local ABC1 television services from 6am Tuesday due to a technical fault discovered by Austar.

Subscribers usually receive the ABC1 NSW service on channel 102 and the ABC1 local service on channel 196.

Austar has discovered a software fault in its new MyStar set top boxes found only when tuning the ABC services.

Therefore Austar terminated all local ABC1 television and ABC radio services.

Subscribers will now only get ABC1 NSW and ABC2.

Austar has assured the ABC the switch-off is temporary and technical solutions were being sought to restore the services.
