Reality TV show Excess Baggage brought its lifestyle and weight-loss roadshow to Kangaroo Island last week, working out at some of the island’s most picturesque locations.
The group comprising celebrities and their everyday partners in teams, host Kate Ceberano, as well as a substantial crew, stayed at the Aurora Ozone Hotel and filmed at locations including Cape Willoughby, Emu Bay, Kelly Hill Caves and Seal Bay.
Catering company KI Source fed the group on location, using local produce as much as possible.
Kate Sumner said the challenge had been to provide low-calorie, healthy options to the contestants but also to satisfy the higher-calorie needs of some of the crew members.
Former AFL footballer Robert “Dipper” Dipierdomenico is partnered with Melbourne travel agent Lana Pilakis, 31. “Dipper” said the tranquility of the island and its wild beauty fit well with the ethos of the show, which was about a holistic approach to wellbeing.
“I was feeling pretty worn down with my work and this experience has been great to rediscover myself,” he said.
Ms Pilakis said she had never even stocked a brochure about the island in her four Melbourne shops so the island had been a revelation to her.
“I’ve been really impressed. The scenery has stunned me and I’m not even into scenery. The island’s definitely on my radar now. I’ll be giving KI a big plug on the show.”
“Dipper” urged the island to back his orange team.
The Kangaroo Island episode is scheduled for March 12.
