The 2008 Kingscote Show was a success with more than 1500 people passing through the gates, 300 more than last year.
The main arena was filled once again with horses, drawing the attention of the crowd for much of the day.
Horses were sadly missed by the Kingscote Show last year, after the equine flu outbreak restrictions made it impossible for this event to go ahead.
The tight competition on the day saw show committee president and skilled horseman David Hall on Clydoman, beaten by Meg Ridley on Strategy who took out the best showjumper.
It was not just the horses that were wowing audiences, the Ticklish Allsorts had the children all singing and dancing along, with two enjoyable and popular performances.
“The show committee acknowledges Sealink Travel Group for helping bring the band to the show,” show secretary Adrienne Bates said.
The show was opened by Liz Harfull, who said she was impressed with the event and praised the committee and support crew for its great organisation.
Ms Harfull also launched the Blue Ribbon Cookbook, featuring KI’s Grace James, who at 85 years of age still cooks, enters and wins many prizes, along with her sisters Joyce West and Olive May.
Mrs Bates said the committee wanted to acknowledge Rex for bringing Ms Harfull to KI for the show.
Exhibit numbers were up this year, with the pavilion looking impressive.
The walls were lined with the 75 entries from the colouring-in competition, which can be collected from the ANZ Bank, along with prizes still to be collected by Mary Martin, Lockie Reed, Ashi Wallace-Mitchell, Emily Taylor and Jade Hinton.
The committed wanted to thank the ANZ and The Islander for sponsoring the competition.
“We congratulate all those who participated with entries, and those who won prizes and awards,” Mrs Bates said.
The fashion show again proved the place to sit, rest and enjoy the family fashions on parade by Island Style.
The antique mower display was popular with convenors Grant and Janet Simpson getting the chance to chat and get to know the locals.
“We apologise for the late changes occurring due to various reasons, the bungee, Island TV, Travelworld, ANZ Matilda’s and whip cracking,” Mrs Bates said.
“We would like to give a huge thank you to all those people who volunteer their time to help us set up on Friday, and then pack up on Saturday after the show.”
