Dinner and auction raises $7000 for fund

05 Aug, 2010 04:02 PM
More than $7000 was raised at the first annual dinner for the Kangaroo Island Country Education Fund.

The dinner for 65 people at the Aurora Ozone Hotel included three courses, wine and an auction of eight prestige items – including a night for two at Southern Ocean Lodge and two nights at the Aurora Heavitree Gap Lodge at Alice Springs.

Speakers included Police Commissioner Mal Hyde, who spoke about policing and intervention for young people, KICEF chairman Simon Windsor and previous grant recipient Jesse Wilkinson.

“We’re very happy with the first dinner and the fantastic support we had from our sponsors and those attending,” Mr Windsor said.

“Many people who didn’t win an auction bid made cash donations afterwards and I think there is a great deal of goodwill for what we are doing,” he said.

KICEF was formed in 2008 and is part of a national organisation.

In the past two years, the local board has made grants to more than 20 Kangaroo Island students to help them pursue further education.

The dinner is proposed to be an annual event.
