Strong wind has been blamed for a fire on Dudley Peninsula on Sunday night which started after power lines were blown down.
CFS group officer Terry May said 60 people were involved in controlling the fire at Cape St Albans, south-east of Penneshaw, with seven appliances, two command cars and staff at communications bases in Penneshaw and Parndana.
He said the “atrocious” conditions made fighting the fire difficult but the wind direction had helped.
No property was damaged but the fire burnt within 1km of a house.
Wind also caused several thousand dollars of damage at the Kingscote Football Club, where sheets of roofing iron were blown from the club’s veranda on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
