Local dolphins in the national spotlight

18 Mar, 2010 03:51 PM
Kangaroo Island Dolphin Watch celebrated its fourth birthday in a seemingly understated fashion last week.

It was however, a very special field trip which took place with students and volunteers joined by world renowned photographer Bill Bachmann and collaborative author Quentin Chester, who will be highlighting Dolphin Watch’s work in their

Kangaroo Island feature in Australian Geographic magazine in the near

future.

It is a wonderful

acknowledgement of the fantastic work performed by Kangaroo Island Community Education

students and community volunteers!

A pod of 12 dolphins at Dashwood Bay, including some new identifications, demonstrated a range of behaviours including their fishing prowess, to the

delight of all on board.

In spite of poor lighting Bill, together with

talented and highly experienced local photographer Pete Nash and the students, were able to obtain some fantastic images. It was a great celebration

of the ongoing efforts

to protect Kangaroo

Island’s dolphins and

their environment.
