Kindergym and gymnastics is back for 2012 making full use of the new Pavilion floor in Kingscote. The last term of 2011 saw some disruption to the Kindergym and KangaGym programs with sessions closing down while the pavilion floor was upgraded. Now it is better than ever!
Sessions for the younger gymnasts run on Friday mornings from 10 - 11am for ages 0 to 5. The sessions involve a play-based movement program with parents or caregivers. Good use of the new floor continues in the afternoons from 3.45 - 4.45pm with a bridging program to gymnastics. KangaGym 1, is for children aged 4 and 5 years old. “It is a chance to develop co-ordination, flexibility and fitness using a mix of gymnastics and kindergym equipment,” coach Shirley Herrmann said.
Programs for older gymnasts aged from 6 to 16 years will continue to operate on Thursday afternoons at the Kingscote Recreation Centre.
KangaGym 2 offers a general gymnastic program for children from 6 years onwards. This program builds strength and flexibly on the floor and on gymnastic equipment. KangaBatics, is an acrobatic team-based sport involving balance, movement and dance routines for more advanced gymnasts.
The gymnastics program runs all year during school terms.
“All new members receive their first session free of charge so it’s a great opportunity to come along and try out,” Ms Herrmann said.
