There was plenty of motor action at the Sprint Event on Sunday.
Spectators lined semi trailers brought in as platforms to view the quarter mile event, held along Arranmore Road, at Cygnet River.
Steve Dixon, KI Motor Club committee member, said about 220 people walked through the gates, however crowds were down on previous competitions.
He explained the threat of wet weather could have contributed to the lower numbers recorded.
“This year five entrants from the mainland joined the biannual event, making up 13 vehicles in total,” he said.
A goods and service auction was held and the public watched as a Holden team battled against a Ford team in a tug-o-war.
While the adults enjoyed the road sport, children were treated to face painting, figurine crafts, merry-go-round rides and sand pit play.
This is the third year this event has run, however KI Motor Club members fear the sport will be lost to the island if lack of interest is shown by the public.
“For the event to be successful we need sponsorship. This helps to keep the event running,” Mr Dixon said.
“We also really need young people, who want to keep the competition here, to be involved in the organising,” Mr Dixon added.
