Kangaroo Island's wine and produce were in the spotlight during a tour of the region this week by some of the world's most influential food and wine media.

About 20 national and international wine and food writers visited Kangaroo Island On Monday and Tuesday as part of the nation's premier food, beer and wine festival, Tasting Australia.

"Kangaroo Island is already famous as a natural wonderland, but it also has a growing reputation as a boutique wine region and a producer of world-class gourmet produce," Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith.

"This media tour will help spread the word about Kangaroo Island's wine and food industry. Importantly, members of the visiting media will have the chance to talk face-to-face with locals during their tour of the island."

During the Kangaroo Island tour, members of the media discovered the world's last remaining strain of pure Ligurian bee at a working honey farm, visited the southern hemisphere's largest abalone farm, tasted divine cheeses at Island Pure Sheep Dairy, and enjoyed sunset drinks by the beach.

They also walked among sea lions at Seal Bay, explored the island's pristine bushland and viewed sustainable, organic farming practices.

Additional regional tours took place in the Adelaide Hills, Barossa, Eyre Peninsula, Fleurieu Peninsula, Limestone Coast and the Riverland.

About 113 local, national and international media are in Adelaide for Tasting Australia, which includes The Lifestyle Channel Chefs' Showcase, celebrity regional lunches and Hyatt Culinary Studios.
