This unidentified floating object was found at Sandy Beach by Robert Ward last week.
It was on the beach at the high-tide mark and research and phone calls had so far failed to identify what it was or to whom it might belong.
Mr Ward had contacted Primary Industries, SARDI, Bureau of Meteorology and the police but no one could identify the object, which has a 30cm diameter and weighs about 15kg.
It has a sensor and GPS attached and an identity badge has been removed or washed off.
