Parndana v Kingscote
The long awaited top of the table clash saw the Parndana Roosters avenge their narrow round one loss to Kingscote by scoring a sound victory in an entertaining game.
Parndana won the toss and kicked with a stiff northerly breeze. The game opened with pace, quick ball movement being a feature.
D Trethewey had an excellent quarter, poor checking allowing him to roam and gather kicks at will.
The ever-reliable M Mills kicked Parndana’s first goal; Parndana added two more goals from relayed free kicks before J Edwards kicked a valuable goal into the breeze for Kingscote.
Z Edwards was playing very well for Kingscote, gathering plenty of possessions and using the ball well.
In the second quarter, M Mills gathered well and kicked Parndana’s fifth goal.
Excellent calling saw Parndana deliver the ball from a pack to D Florance, who gleefully snapped Kingscote’s second goal.
A feature of the play this quarter was fast, open ball movement with both teams combining well. D Davis for Parndana initiated a good chain of foot passes which saw T Wurst kick his first goal. The third quarter saw Parndana attack constantly. Kingscote, missing a couple of injured tall players, allowed Parndana to dominate the scoring, kicking five unanswered goals for the quarter.
M Gilbert excited the crowd with a one-handed mark and sixty-metre goal off a couple of steps.
Kingscote dominated the scoring in the last quarter, highlighted by a spectacular mark and goal to L Ramsay.

With the northerly wind still howling across the Gosse oval Western Districts won the toss and kicked with it. Wisanger goaled first with fast flow on footy.
WD had the majority of the play. Rob Clements creative for WD.
Wisanger back lines held up well. The wind made play a bit scrappy and Wonks were inaccurate around goals, until late in the quarter, finishing with five for the term.
WD scored three early goals in the second quarter. Wisanger kept trying.
Centre lines for both teams giving the forwards plenty of the ball. Half time score WD 10.7 WIS 3.2.
Wisanger opened scoring in the third quarter with an early unselfish goal, but squandered many opportunities. However, Wisanger were killing WD in attack. Graham, Clements and Morgan started to create and Wonks got a couple of quick goals.
Ley defending well for Wisanger. Wisanger could have been a lot closer but for inaccuracy around goals.
Last quarter Wisanger attacked and would not give up. No team could gain the upper hand to create flow on footy.
WD experience with some run and link up handball then opened up the game about half way through the quarter, to outscore Wisanger into the breeze and win their first final quarter of football for season 2008.
A hard fought game. Final score WD 15.13, WIS 6.13, and the strong nor-westerly telling on the score lines.
Best for WD: Josh Graham, Rob Clements and Henry Riggs for their work ethic and skill around the ground; Steve Morgan’s marking skills and long kicking; Damien Florance and Greg Bald solid in defence. Four goals each to the Morris brothers.
Best for W: Lennard Buschhueter in ruck, Billy Turner solid in defence. Jason Fryar and Andrew Turner racked up the possessions, and young Teapot had plenty of the ball.

KI boys shine for Zone
A group of footballers and officials from KI travelled as part of a group representing the Southern Zone to the Riverland on the weekend.
The first game against the Northern Zone was a good win with Clayton Willson named best player.
The second game was against the Murray Mallee Barrier and Barossa zone, we were beaten by a couple of goals.
Our third game was on Sunday, we played the South East Zone for the third and fourth spots and were beaten soundly.
Three men from the Southern side made the championship side and five have been selected to join in the state squad.
A great effort by the KI reps working outside their comfort zone to make the Southern Zone side happen. Heath Gurney - State Selector, Tony Nolan – Team Manager, Dave Florance – Runner, Eddie Johnson and Mark Smith – Trainers.
The players representing KI were Clayton Willson, Adam Buick, Josh Lade and Shane Matthews.
The southern boys will never forget their team manager as all through the warm up on Sunday he was driving the porcelain bus, the question asked by anyone who heard him was “is that a cow having a calf in there?”
Well done to everyone who participated.
