During the school holidays Frank, Kimberly, Rachelle, Tyson, Robbie and Natalie attended the Mark Davis Basketball Camp which is held at Immanuel College.
It is held over a week and the kids live in with the coaches and endure some intense training along with some really fun activities. Early to rise and training after the evening meal not unusual and as some were attending for the second time they knew what they were in for. This year there was also a pool party, laser squirmish and they all learnt how to play wheelchair basketball with Australian/World Wheel Chair Champion David Gould OAM who coached the under 18’s during the week. Other coaches included previous and present 36’s and Lightning players along with Big Willie Simmons and Mark Davis who are amazing ambassadors to the game. They all met some new friends and also caught up with friends they met last year one being Scott Parry who attended as a student last year and grew a metre since they saw him last but this year he returned as a coach.
A great week of basketball in the middle of our season to keep the kids on track and busy.
We returned last weekend to catch up with everyone from the camp again at the Adelaide 36’s and Lightning matches against Townsville.
With a sell out crowd at the Dome the kids were introduced on to centre court at the quarter time break of the men’s match by Mark Davis which was a real hoot. Basketball is a great spectators sport too, so all you previous, present and potential players out there keep an eye on The Islander as our finals are looming. Come and watch some of the basketball talent we have here on KI, we would love the support.
