Western Districts v Kingscote

In an absorbing, bruising battle, Kingscote defeated a mostly gallant WD, kicking the last seven goals to record a 51-point victory at Gosse on Saturday.

The game started with WD kicking the first goal. Kingscote replied quickly.

The stage was set for a high-scoring game in perfect conditions.

This didn’t eventuate as both teams were determined to play accountable football.

Kingscote with Paul Green dominating, wasted early scoring opportunities and held a slender lead at quarter time.

The arm wrestle had begun, and continued with neither team being able to break clear. Kingscote up seven points at half time.

Western Districts dominated field position and possession for most of the third term, but couldn’t capitalise on the scoreboard.

By contrast, Kingscote scored goals every time they entered their forward 50 with skilful counter attacks and good finishing. Kingscote up by 18 at three-quarter time.

Final quarter began with big Paul Joraslafsky (WD) kicking two goals in quick time. Game on.

Passionate supporters from both teams were giving their all, and then some, creating an engaging atmosphere not seen at local footy for some time.

Steve Rowsell (WD) went down injured at next centre contest.

Kingscote sniffed an opportunity, forced the ball forward and kicked a goal.

From then on they dominated clearances, scoring the final six goals with skilful, strong football, running out deserved winners.

Green, Dustin Curtis and Scott Walden stood out in very even team effort for Kingscote.

Rob Clements, J Graham best for a determined WD.

Western Districts v Kingscote

Beautiful sunny day at Wonks with young and old out on the oval.

Kingscote with a younger team had quicker legs, but WD were trying hard.

Matty Joyce playing like a champ.

Wonks had the ball in the last half, but no goals at the end.

WD winning the ruck in the second quarter but not using it well.

Matt Ward for Kingscote playing tough but well and giving the young dogs a chance.

Though Kingers were still scoring the goals.

WD’s defence and attack were good.

Meaty game in the third.

Young Chirgwin for Kingers playing well.

Wonks started off well after the final break and had a lot of the ball.

Old Bernie kicking a grubber goal and young Luke Hacker scoring a second within minutes.

Kingscote still up but Wonks still fighting.

Matt Ward for Kingscote was everywhere. Homer did ok on the young A Anderson.

Wonks must look up more, and they will surely be in the running in September.

Western Districts v Kingscote

The weather was superb for football when Western Districts hosted Kingscote.

The first quarter saw Kingscote dominate with quick returns for goal.

Western Districts worked very hard standing up to the on-going barrage of Kingscote.

Kingscote forwards were dominating and marking without fault.

Second quarter saw much of the same.

Rhys Lovering and Will Crump playing a great attacking game.

For the Saints, Travis Hilder and Daniel Platten working hard. The second half started and after some positional changes Anthony Anderson and Luke Hacker were a force in the Westies defence, keeping a few of the Kingscote forwards quiet.

Keenan Hammat gave Wonkies their first goal and Anthony Anderson putting in a last blast effort for another.

Congratulations to Simon Lovering and the Kingscote Colts – still a leader in Junior football on KI.

Well done to Western Districts – never giving up and no mercy rule played.

Awesome football to watch.
