Eagles hand Hounds a home defeat

A Grade

Dudley United 9.17

d Kingscote 8.3

Kingscote suffered its first defeat for the season after being overrun in the last term by a fast finishing Dudley United.

The Eagles were quickly off the mark against the breeze through Clayton Willson, before a great tackle by Luke Bruce allowed Paul Green to reply.

Good forward line pressure resulted in another to Lee Brown, big Khyal Stead slotted another then a free paid downfield saw Daniel Taylor boot Kingscote’s fourth and the Dogs could do no wrong.

But, Dudley rallied through forward Michael Condo to finish the quarter just 10 points in arrears.

Luke Ramsey opened the Hounds second term account as Condo did the same for the visitors from a holding the ball decision in the square.

Nev Clark was making his presence felt around the middle as the game became an arm wrestle, with Kingscote’s forward efficiency keeping their noses in front.

Hayden Matthews and Brett Clark both keeping up the pressure for the Hounds.

Several Eagles attacks resulted in minor scores, Damien Taylor once again showing strong commitment down back, and three goals to each side saw the Hounds just five points up at the half 7.1 to 5.8.

Third quarter opened up promisingly as Scotty Walden delivered to Scud for his second, but after 20 minutes of hard slog and a Cameron Jones major the scoreboard saw the Hounds still hanging on grimly to a four point lead, 8.2 to 6.10.

Last term and Dudley snatched the lead after an inspiring goal from ruckman Brodie Howard, another soon after from Bullock and the Eagles were flying.

Clayto went up a gear as his teammates ran and made space, finding loose men all over the ground.

Dogs co-captain Dan Florance did his best to rally his troops but when Jones drilled his second it was all over.

Parndana 23.11

d Wisanger 9.3

In what seemed a perfect day for footy – a three-goal breeze favouring the northern end and few looming showers with some glorious sunshine, the Roosters clawed their authority on a very physical encounter against Wisanger.

Damien Davis winning the toss and electing to go with the breeze in the first term.

Young Brad May dominated in the ruck early, feeding the on-ballers, Mathews and Gilbert.

Parndana were playing on quickly at every opportunity with Nathan Trethewey setting up several goals in the first term.

Nick Dugmore chipped in with a couple of goals and was looking dangerous.

Every Wisanger forward movement was met with the Rooster’s miserly defence, Skipper Davis and Adrian Holtham grabbed or spoilt everything that came their way.

Parndana eight goals to Wisanger’s one.

A bit of rain evened the playing field and the Panther’s young guns Morris, Fryar and the Lee boys started to get their hands on the footy.

The Roo’s skipper and Wisanger’s on field leader Craig Turner was trying to inspire his troops, but to no avail, the boys from Rooster land had all the answers.

Dugmore kicked another two goals with Tom Wurst leading and marking strong surrounded by Millsy at centre-half and Ben Gaskin holding down their positions.

With Wisanger down by eight goals at the start of the premiership quarter they rallied and found a spark.

Adam Trowbridge was getting on top in the ruck, and the Panthers had first use of the ball.

Jake Lee, Jason Fryar and Craig Turner were trying to keep Wisanger in the game, young Darcy Kildea chipped in with a speedy goal.

The 50m penalties going to both teams, and the crowd of supporters talking.

Brad May rose to the rucking duel, and Dugmore rode the wave of another three majors to take his tally to seven.

The pressure from the Panthers third term fired up the Roosters coach and his players responded well with the on field leader Nathan Trethewey setting up two quick goals to take Parndana’s tally to twenty into the breeze.

Wursty ended up with five and Nick with eight goals and Nathan best on ground.

Damien Davis’ leadership and Adrian Holtham’s aerial skills were a great spectacle even after dislocating his thumb.

The Lee boys were excellent and Craig Turner was in the fray all day.

Young Jason Fryar never gave in. Bill Turner fought hard and Adam Trowbridge among their best.

Hounds break the drought

Reserves

Kingscote 7.10

d Dudley United 4.4

In the reserves match, Kingscote broke a four-year drought with hard running and skilful play to unsettle the reigning premiers.

The Dogs started with the aid of a two-goal breeze, Nathan Smith soon converting.

Adam Robinson, NaNa and Sean Johnston were firing, AJ Buick clearing for the Eagles but under extreme pressure.

A goal to ‘Buddy’ Chirgwin opened the second term, then a great pass across the ground form Mark Macklin to the running Squeeker saw the Hounds go five-zip, but Dudley finally got on the board through Tub Howard.

Neil Stoeckel went into the ruck against young gun Alex O’Dolan and the midfield battles were fierce.

Michael Ward as usual stood up for the Dogs.

Simon Wheaton gave it all for his side, but with Turtle and Monty under siege at the last line it looked like a walkover could be on the cards and Hounds smelt blood.

With the wind at their back in the last however, the Eagles found something extra.

Supercoach Elvis Ramsey had to leave the building and Butsy’s Bloodhounds were suddenly under a bit of pressure.

When Justin Harman hit the post, the resulting kickout went straight to AJ who goaled.

Harman followed with a goal off the deck, then a strong mark and goal to David Florance and the Eagles were on a roll, but the Dogs steadied, young Dylan Edwards kicking a point after the siren for a benchmark win.

Wisanger 19.14

d Parndana 4.4

Wisanger started well with goals with Cod, Ellson and Crackers good contributors.

Parndana replied with one goal late in the quarter through Super and Willy.

A much closer contest in the second with Parndana lifting their intensity.

Wisanger had good contributions all over the ground helping them to a further two goal advantage.

Another tight quarter. Wisanger winning this quarter by another goal, stretching their margin to eight goals.

A good team win for Wisanger.

An almost quick reply to Wisanger but it hit the post, then a mistake to Parndana saw Wisanger post another goal – a great see-sawing match with great skills from both teams.

An excellent quarter Parndana 4.3 Wisanger 6.6

Last quarter, Jayden Kingi has had a great game and seemed to be repelling everything, which resulted in an early goal to Jay Tyley, then another Wisanger goal saw them edging away.

Parndana never gave in, but Wisanger too strong in the end.
