Four Island boys represented South Adelaide in the last week of the school holidays for the Under 15 State Country Championships – Damon Weatherspoon (Western Districts), Brodie Smith (Kingscote), and the Under 17 State combined championships – Anthony Anderson (Wisanger / Prince Alfred College), and Brent Kirby (Dudley United / Sacred Heart College).
The Under 15s came away with a win from three games. Unfortunately Brodie Smith sustained a broken ankle on day two. Damon Weatherspoon played intense footy all week and showed that he has a big future ahead of him.
In the Under 17s Anthony Anderson and Brent Kirby did not disappoint, with both boys showing great talent. Anthony and Brent worked well all week with both boys making the coach’s ‘best players’ list and Anthony bagging a few goals to be leading goalkicker on day two. Due to this being such an elite competition, all four boys should be proud of themselves. They certainly held their own and were great representatives of their respective clubs and of Kangaroo Island. Thanks to Alex Burrowes and the South Adelaide Football Club for nurturing local talent.
