Kingscote v Wisanger

The rivalry between Kingscote and Wisanger continued on Saturday in typical winter conditions.

Wisanger won the toss and elected to kick with the breeze but that’s where the luck ended with Kingscote kicking the first five goals before Wisanger even got a sniff.

Luke Stewart and Scud (6.8) dominating up forward.

Wisanger opened up their account after the first break, kicking against the breeze looking to be the scoring end before the dogs replied, both teams going goal for goal for most of the term before a late surge by the Hounds during time on saw the gap widen to 10 goals at the main break.

Luke Stewart dominating with six goals to half time along with Curtis, Ramsey (6.8), Walden and Stewart dominating the forward lines and anything being thrust towards Wisanger attacking area being rebounded well by Donaghey, Dan Taylor, Roy Jones and Dale Howard did their best to hold off the Hounds.

The heavens opened up in the last term, the ball. Kingscote kicked on before Wisanger gained some respectability on the scoreboard with a couple of late goals but too little too late for the visitors.

Luke Stewart, Dustin Curtis and Hendo best for Kingscote while Lee boys, Norm, Yogi and young Lenny battled well for the Panthers

Dudley United

v Western Districts

Traditional wet and wild conditions greeted Dudley United at Gosse Oval on Saturday.

Players struggled early to deal with slippery conditions.

A low scoring quarter with Dudley kicking the only goal.

Dudley United drew first blood in the second quarter, kicking first goal.

Western Districts then bounced back, dealing with conditions better kicking five goals with the breeze, and opened up a handy two-goal lead at half time.

The third quarter saw Dudley respond to the challenge, dominating field play, reducing the deficit, then sneaking ahead.

A late goal to WD set up an exciting final term, the home side just four points behind.

The Eagles started the last quarter full of running, briefly getting on top of the plucky Saints.

Not to be denied, WD dug deep, kicking a couple of goals, the margin now just four points.

The frantic final minutes saw the Saints trying valiantly to score, desperate defence from DU denied them, the siren sounded – Eagles by four points.

Dejavu for Saints – very similar fate of that of last week.

DU supporters and players very happy with the close, hard fought win.

Eagles refuse to give up the early lead

Reserves

Dudley United

v Western Districts

Wet and windy at Gosse Oval for the reserves clash.

DU won the toss and kicked with the breeze.

They dominated the early going, kicking four goals with D Florance and Benson dominating.

WD needed to respond and to their credit they did.

The rest of the game being a very even contest.

WD controlled the play for long periods, but missed a couple of scoring opportunities, which could have made the game very interesting.

Dudley’s lead was never seriously threatened, doing what they had to do to record a five goal win.

Best players DU – Benson, D Sparks, Martain and Florance (until injured)

WD – T Weatherspoon an outstanding game in conditions that suited him. J Boyle, G Parry, G Watters.

WD need a couple of wins to participate in finals.

DU, while not as dominant as last year’s side, is soundly based for their premiership defence.

Kingscote v Wisanger

The B Grade game was hard fought between two fairly evenly matched sides.

The Hounds got on the scoreboard early when ruckman Alex O’Dolan’s snapshot hit both goal posts, probably deserved more than a single point. Squeak Johnston drilled ‘em for a goal while the Dogs had most of the play.

Damon Tyley put Wisanger on the board, and after a fast paced quarter, both sides had a couple of majors.

Khyal Stead dominating all over the ground with Jake Stewart and Michael Ward providing plenty of support, while Craig Boxer and Scott Waterman were busy for the blue boys.

Kingscote increased their lead through O’Dolan, Josh Harris and Adam Robinson driving their team forward.

Inaccuracy at goal keeping Wisanger in touch.

Steve Dezen’s long kicks from defence repelled many Hounds attacks, but when Crackles was stretchered off after going down in a tackle with Dogs hard nut Luke Sander, things looked again grim for the visitors.

Last quarter saw a great shot from Matt Ward in the pocket to seal it for Kingscote while Cod Neave scored his third to at least win the quarter the Whizz-bangers, but not the game. The Dogs too strong and winning the game.
