Hog Bay v Parndana

Hog Bay won the toss and got off to another flyer with the bat. The top four batsmen getting starts and making runs quickly. The best being a quickfire 39 from Heath Gurney. At drinks Hog Bay had 118 runs but had lost four wickets. A steadying partnership between Clayton Willson and Ken Rowe set the scene for some lusty hitting later in the innings by Clayton and Hog Bay’s latest recruit Simon Chapman who blasted 24.

A very focused Clayto was in excellent form and went on to score 69 not out. Bomber Clifford was the best of the Parndana bowlers with a tidy 3/36 off 10. After the 45 overs Hog Bay had 248 on the board, setting a daunting task for the visitors.

With a fast outfield and excellent shots Ashley Ness looked like he was up to the challenge. But two absolutely brilliant catches by Mick Condo (one of the best I have seen) and star recruit Jeremy Barnes had the two Parndana top batsmen sitting back in the shade with 30-odd runs on the board. Ash a good 25. Both batsmen could consider themselves somewhat unlucky due to the brilliant catches.

The crowd was then entertained by some excellent and at times, gutsy batting by Parndana young gun J Gaskin.

He fell just one short of his 50 but impressed everyone with his innings. Fifteen runs each for D Trethewey and M Kelly meant the young Parndana team finished with 138. Not enough, but should be proud of their young players.

Excellent bowling again by H Gurney getting key wickets when required and finishing with an impressive 3 for 15 off 10. Also great bowling by man of the match Clayto Willson with 2 for 9 off 6. 2 wickets also to Locky Howard who finished off very well.

Hog Bay celebrated a satisfying day well into the night!

MacGillivray v Wisanger

Last Saturday saw MacGillivray take on Wisanger at the MCG. Wisanger won the toss and decided to bat. B Wilks and C Wyatt started cautiously thanks to some tight bowling from P Collins and I Bolto. After a few overs B Wilks started to look dangerous, scoring 56, despite the dismissal of C Wyatt, C Smith and A Hartman, (nearly giving I Bolto his hat trick!) He was eventually caught on the boundary by B Willson. At drinks Wisanger were 3 for 119.

After drinks things took a nose dive for Wisanger as D Weatherspoon ripped through the order taking 5 for 6 off 4 overs! M Swayne offered some resistance, but was not able to cope with the bowling pressure, being part of the ‘seven wickets for ten runs’ spell after drinks. Wisanger all out for 129 off 31 overs.

In reply MacGillivray started slowly, knowing there was always going to be time, but some good bowling from B Wilks (3/28) and A Hartman (1/19) applied the pressure early. Lade, Willson, Bolto and Lovering exited, causing some anxiety in the Hawk team and some excitement for Wisanger.

Fortunately for the Hawks, S Veitch and J Nolan brought it home to win, with three wickets to spare. Several Macgillivray players made starts, but P Collins was the stand out with 27. Once again, good to see young players enjoying their cricket and some good competitive cricketing spirit.

Saints v Kingscote

The top of the table clash took place in the Gosselands on Saturday in ideal conditions. Saints winning the toss started solidly with Geursen and Johnson looking to be in control until a mix up saw the captain run-out.

Quick wickets followed until a good partnership between Fogden (49) and the timeless Nadebaum (37) allowed the Saints to bat out their overs to compile a competitive 200. Good contributions from twinkle toes Hammat and L Boyle.

Kingscote’s run chase started poorly with the top order failing, the Saints bowling in good areas and fielding well. B Davis and A Anderson taking the game changing catches. J Crozier, P Green (31) and L Virgo (n.o. 23) showed resolve but they were left with too much to do, all out for 138. P Johnson with 4 for 34 off his 10 overs did the damage. Over and Out.

Hog Bay’s Eric Cook, left, took this screamer off his own bowling in the juniors and Jeremy Barnes landed this one in the outfield watched by skipper Ken Rowe. But it was a mixed day for the Razorbacks, winning the seniors but conceding to a stronger Parndana junior side.

Through to the keeper Sam Gurney and the slips fielder Ty Martain (Hog Bay).
