2nd Semi-Final
Saturday
Parndana has delivered both senior sides into the grand final after a big weekend of local football.
Events began with the Colts second semi, played on a wet and windy Saturday at Western Districts.
Wonks kicked with the breeze and skipped out to a three-goal lead, only to see the Roosters claw back the margin to be a goal down at halftime.
Westies took control in the third however, their big men dominant as they kept the Reds scoreless while booting four goals.
Needing a big last quarter with the wind, Parndana’s hopes were dashed when the Saints’ Ryan Halloran nailed two goals in two minutes, effectively ending the contest and giving a grand final berth to the boys from the West.
It was a different story in the Reserves as Parndana did all the early running, with captain Rob Kelly winning the toss and his team scoring the first five goals with quick hands and efficient ball movement.
It was just before halftime when the Saints finally goalled through Tim Fields, but it was enough to lift them as they came out firing after the break. They kicked two goals against the breeze while importantly, holding the Roosters goalless for the term, setting up a desperate last quarter.
At the end of an epic struggle where neither side could gain the advantage, the Roosters held on to win 5-4 to 3-4.
In the A Grade match, once again Parndana had first use of a strong breeze, but it was Wonks who drew first blood with a goal from Anderson.
A quick reply through Damien Trethewey saw the Reds up and running, and they gradually drew away to be four goals up at halftime, despite the relentless attack on ball and body from the Saints.
It was a dour third term as both sides struggled to get on top in the greasy conditions. It took until the 11th minute of the term before a score was made, when Mills kicked a great goal from the boundary while under pressure.
It was more of the same in the last quarter with goals difficult to come by, but the Roosters did enough in the end to score a comfortable though hard fought win.
