Roosters triumph in mud slog

Kingscote v Parndana

The reigning premiers overcame a plucky Hounds outfit to score a relatively comfortable win in difficult conditions. The teams ran out onto a sodden Kingscote oval, with the Hounds mindful of a first half annihilation by Parndana in round 1.

Once again the Roosters took the early ascendancy, but the young Dogs fought back strongly, highlighted by a great goal from the boundary by Boomer Stewart.

In conditions where the in-and-under types dominated, Dustin Curtis for Kingscote and Parndana’s Shane Matthews excelled, Jesse Wilkinson and Nathan Trethewey had a great duel and best-on-ground Bradley May also had an absorbing contest with young Dylan Edwards.

By half-time the Dogs were still in touch, 4-2 to 6-7, but with Curtis stretchered off would need to dig deep.

Parndana took charge in the 3rd term, Gilbert lively on a forward flank and Michael Mills and Daniel May kicking goals, Routley a beauty. Kingscote’s young brigade kept them in it, Rory Lovering flying on a wing, Sam Lewis always dangerous and elder statesman Paul Green doing a Judd at half back with a rearranged snotbox. Last term saw a good goal from Thomas Smith, Michael Ward was still running despite playing two games but the Roosters ran home by 7 goals, Mills booting 4.

Reserves

Kingscote v Parndana

In the reserves a good game ensued despite the Reds booting the first five goals of the match, four straight from forward Daniel Dunstan. Tristan Turner went to CHB with immediate effect and it was the Dogs’ turn kicking four in a row, including a boomer from Muzza Sander. Krissy Lee revelled in the greasy conditions and Wade Tonkin had telling possessions for the Hounds, but with Rob & Ash Kelly dominating the clearances for the Roosters and Ashley Ness marshalling the backlines they gradually gained the upper hand. Another 7 goal win for the Roosters, but a much better performance from the Hounds after their round one debacle. Congratulations to Roosters stalwart Simon “Super” Dennis on 250 games, well done bigfella.

Colts

Kingscote v Parndana

Senior Colts saw more joy for the visitors, Hahns Sullivan dominating in a big win, Brodie Smith best for Kingscote, while the Hounds Junior Colts scored a win, Dennis Belios their best and D. Clifford for the Roosters.
