Sunny day for Blues

02 Jul, 2009 04:47 PM
Wisanger Netball Club had a strong day out

on Saturday, beating Kingscote’s B Grade for the first time this season and almost toppling Kingscote’s top-placed A Grade team.

A Grade

Kingscote 41 d Wisanger 37

A very different line up for Kingscote and Jess Wooley lining up for Wisanger.

At the start, a very fast play by both teams. Tight defence made all goalies work hard to find space. Kingscote settled well in the second quarter and had a run on goals. Tash made space down the court and Caitlin and Lucille re-bounded strongly. Kingscote made changes at half time. At the end of the third quarter only two goals separated the teams, Kingscote played well and got out to a lead but Wisanger managed to come back in the end.

Dudley United 66 d Western Districts 20

The game started with all girls working hard. DU were a good united team.

Very accurate shooting by Linda backed up by Julie. WD tried hard every quarter.

DU changed their goalies and defence but still shot really well. WD goalies had trouble with the tall defences but still worked hard for the whole game.

B Grade

Wisanger 37 d Kingscote 32

Both teams started strong. The blend of youth and experience in both teams worked well.

Every pass was strongly contested with nobody giving anything away easily. Wisanger was up by 2 at quarter time and the tight contest continued through to half time with Wisanger up by 7, both teams made changes at half time. Kingscote fighting back early in the 2nd half but Wisanger prving too strong, maintaining a 5 goal lead at three quarter time.

The unusual sunshine sapped the energy from a couple of the old timers but the young ones on both sides made everybody continue competing for every ball. Last quarter broke goal for goal with Wisanger celebrating their first win by 5 goals!

C Grade

Wisanger 55 d Kingscote 33

Great start to game with Kingscote scoring the first couple of games and then it went to goal for goal. Wisanger making up lost ground to finish the quarter, six goals up. Second quarter and Kingscote just couldn’t get the ball in the ring and Wisanger making the most of it. All girls fighting hard for the ball. Wisanger up by 15 goals. Third quarter and back to even play. Great to watch and all girls playing well. The defences on both teams working hard. Wisanger up by 16 goals.

The final quarter and another good one. The score to the game didn’t seem to match the play. Wisanger won by 22 goals. A really good clean game to watch. Well done girls.

Dudley 54 d Parndana 49

Both teams started well being even in all positions. Good pressure from Parndana defences forced errors in goal circle by Dudley. Ang as usual not missing goals giving Parndana the lead at half time. Both teams made changes through centre in the third quarter. Kate and Sue had their eye in with goals. Dudley up by five going into last quarter. Both teams fought hard in final quarter. Great game to watch. Dudley holding on to win by 5 goals.

C Grade

Western Districts 38 d

Dudley United 31

It was an even start to the game with Jasman from the Dudley side injuring her ankle.

Western Districts managing to get 3 goals in front before quarter time. WD were right in the lead all through the second and third quarter. Proving to have a strong defence by Karen Hammat

And Jane Weatherspoon. Dudley managed to make a comeback in the last quarter but Western Districts were able to pull it off.

D Grade

Wisanger 28 d Kingscote 25

Old rivals Wisanger and Kingscote met again for what would be physical game. Both teams even at quarter time. Half time saw Kingscote out by four goals. Third quarter everybody out and going for the ball. Wisanger up by four at three quarter time. Wisanger and Kingscote all going for broke in the last with lots of contact and obstruction between the girls.

Wisanger held on by three goals to win. Final score 28-25.

Carol and Helen great for Wisanger. Alana and Donna well played for Kingscote. Nice to see Wisanger back on the winners list.

Parndana 48 d Western Districts 21

Very lovely day with the sun out most of the time. First quarter was a good start for both teams.

Parndana gained ahead in second quarter after their warm-up in first. Both teams changed players in their goal ring. Western Districts did not give in – they played hard all game.

Parndana increased their pace and won.
