Under 13s

East v West

After mixing up both sides the west team opened up their innings with R Halloran and A Johnson making 13 before Z Havelberg had him bowled. R Halloran making a quick 30 before retiring and Ben Nott compiling 20 before being run out.

J Hinton put together a good 18 runs when M Linke had him caught.

Cam Florance and Scott Hammat came together and built a nice partnership, both lads retiring towards the end of the 40 overs, Cam on 20, Scott on 15.

East bowling sundries were quite large, helping West’s innings to 5/223, with Z Havelberg, Linke, McMulkin and Belios the only wicket takers.

East innings started well, J Church compiling 18 and Z Havelberg 10 before being caught off brother Brodie and S Hammat having Church caught also. D Belios and T Thomas came together and built a good partnership before B Nott had Belios caught out for 14, and Cam Florance bowling T Thomas for 11. Kade Morris propped up the middle order with 20 before retiring and J Snowball run out also on 20.

East batting falling a little short off their 40 overs finishing 7/166.

Jack Hinton the only multiple wicket taker with two, B Havelberg, Hammat, Nott and Florance each with one apiece.

Under 16s - Meyer Shield

The Island’s best Under 16 cricketers combined for a keenly fought contest at Wisanger Oval on Saturday January 21.

After winning the toss Jack Gurney’s ‘Rebels’ got off to a solid start, but a few quick wickets had them back under pressure.

Keenan Hammat’s ‘The Rest of the World’ teamed bowled good line and length, testing the batting side throughout the innings. Georgia Weatherspoon’s unbeaten middle order knock of 28 helped the Rebels set a winning target of 100. Good bowling figures from Jack Grimes of 3/15.

In reply Nick Hacker burst through The Rest of the World’s opening batters with an early wicket. Travis Hilder then unsettled the Rebels bowlers with a quickfire 30. Enter Lachie Florance who shared a 127-run partnership with Keenan Hammat featuring some eye-catching strokeplay as the innings progressed. Sam Gurney rubbed some salt into the wound with a lusty 33 not out. Jess Lovering and Georgia Weatherspoon returned good bowling figures of 1/12 and 1/19 in an innings that reached a total of 253 from 40 overs.

Well done to both teams who are probably now wondering who the heck is ‘Rebels’ and ‘Rest of the World’ anyway. This game was played in great spirit. Thanks to Ben Davis and the parents who made it happen.
