Fish'n'chip challenge is on again

The closure of the KI Fresh Seafoods takeaway is a blow for Kingscote.

It is more than six years since The Islander bemoaned the lack of a fish’n’chip shop in the seaside village of Kingscote, citing it as an obvious omission on the list of seaside town must-haves.

This editorial drew considerable protest from local eating houses, all justifiably proud of their seafood offerings. Still…

KI Fresh Seafoods opened shortly after and filled most of the requirements, except perhaps the seafront location. Certainly Tina, Eddy and the team filled the order for top quality and service.

It is never good to see a business close and perhaps especially difficult to see a good business close.

This is one at least that can’t be chalked down to internet shopping. The pressures have been mostly internal and ones that many small businesses will understand.

When the crunch comes, priorities must be observed, core business retianed. Tina and Eddy want to focus on their fresh fish sales.

So, six years later, the challenge is issued again.

This is not to offend the worthy takeaway food options already available BUT…

An iconic seaside destination needs an iconic fish’n’chip shop to showcase the freshest cooked seafood so prized by visitors and residents.
