Wisanger Panthers were crowned premiers, winning their grand final clash over the Kingscote Hounds on Saturday.
In perfect weather, Hounds first to bat and were three out and no score. Wisanger got off to a good start with Alli up first hitting a three-bagger. Nerves crept into the Hounds game and strong batting by Wisanger saw nine home.
Hounds were still unable to score in their second innings while Wisanger added six more; Wisanger 15 Hounds 0.
In the third, the determined Hounds scored six runs, but fielding errors from Hounds saw Wisanger score four more home with another big outfield hit by Alli.
Hounds batting improved with safe outfield hits giving them a much needed six to add to their score while good fielding kept Wisanger to one run. The score was 19-9 at the end of the fourth.
Continued pressure from Hounds and tight fielding kept Wisanger to one run in the fifth while Hounds added another seven; 21-16 at the end of the sixth. Wisanger added another two with safe outfield hits in the six innings and Hounds were only able to score one more run in the seventh giving Wisanger a well deserved win.
Four big homers for the game were hit by Wisanger’s Alli, Katie, Hounds Jacob and Max.
It was a great team effort from Wisanger with pitcher-catcher combo Alli and Katie, Kaitlin on second and Tessa at third playing well. The outfield of Deb, Hannah, Ella and Jaz had a good workout and were up to the challenge. Tanya at first and Kat at shortstop also played well..
For Hounds, Temah at catcher, Jacob at second, Iris pitching and Zac on third, Max at right field all played well. Good fielding from Nychia at left and Robin at centre.
Amy at first and Joanna at shortstop played a good game and thanks goes to subs Danielle and Matekino for cheering the team on.
Thanks was also extended to the umpires, Merv, Alicia and Karaitiana and to all the spectators.
A big thank you to the KI District Council who sponsored the game on the Kingscote Oval and to Kingscote Sports Club for the use of their clubroom for presentations and to the cricket fellas who manned the bar for us.
