Saturday, March 18

Eight boats started with extremely light winds blowing from the north – nor’east at 5-7 knots.

This deterred all except the more determined.

Three boats retired and the lone Holdie was involved in a pre-race collision and didn’t make the start.

The fastest boat to finish in two and a half hours was Jed Sheridan on his Arrow, Aeolion, but fourth on Yardstick.

The Team Sailors have been practising every Friday night in readiness to attend the Regionals to be held at Meningie next weekend.

Friday night, Tim Frears really put the sailors through their paces with calls of, “No room in there”, “ Buoy Room”, “Up, up I have overlap”, and “Starboard”.

We wish the team of nine sailors, skippers Darcy Rice, Frank Colman, Liana Cockshell, Julia Haselgrove, Nina Colman and crews Nicole Symens, Samara Golder, Karim Hadland and Josiah Bennett fair winds, good competition.

Hopefully they will be successful in their venture to win a place in the State Competition held in the April school holidays.

With most of the junior sailors away, please check whether there will be any local sailing at the Kangaroo Island Yacht Club next weekend, March 25.
