Kangaroo Island’s Kingscote to Brownlow Walking trail development has received a $75,000 State Government boost.
The project, which is being co-funded by the Kangaroo Island Council, will see the pathway from Telegraph Road to Reeves Point in Kingscote extended.
The project is one of 27 across South Australia to receive a share of $7 million in funding under the Open Space and Places for People grants under the Planning and Development Fund.
The fund aids local communities in upgrading public spaces such as reserves, playgrounds and walking and cycling trails.
Since 2002 the Government has invested over $150 million in about 800 projects, which must promote accessibility, recreation and transformation. More than $4.9 million of the total investment is for regional South Australia.
The Department received 66 applications for funding.
Following an assessment process, the Minister approved $7 million to 27 projects across South Australia.
Minister for Planning John Rau said the Government was committed to grassroots projects which benefit local communities.
“$7 million towards local projects will help to provide safe and usable reserves, walking and cycling trails and playgrounds.
“Ongoing investment into quality open spaces is a key driver in making our local communities more attractive, accessible and liveable.”
