My Office has been instrumental in considering local housing and workforce planning, given the number of developments nearing commencement.
Wendy Perry from Workforce Blueprint was engaged to prepare a Workforce Plan and she has met with businesses, community organisations and agencies to discuss issues related to recruitment, retention and development of staff. The Department of State Development is working with us and a report will be subject to consultation in October.
Local housing issues are being considered via the Local Advisory Board (LAB) that I formed under my Act. The implementation plan produced after consultation with the LAB has been finalised and sent to stakeholders, including government, to ensure that we align the various proposals with the work they are undertaking. The issue of housing for workers who will take up the new hospitality and tourism positions is on the agenda, including housing styles, finance and affordability.
Last week I attended a workshop of the businesses that have taken part in the Transformation Project’s 90 Day Business Plan training program. Fourteen businesses were involved and it was terrific to hear about the work undertaken, guided by Phil Ransome and Sue Arlidge who are working with us.
More than 145 businesses have engaged with the Transformation Project and a funding application is before the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund to continue supporting growth in local businesses.
We have also conducted a workshop with Business KI for builders and contractors to discuss what, if any, assistance they need if they wish to gain work from future developments. Any businesses unable to join us last week should register their interest with us.
Finally, the next arts workshop is on Thursday September 14, 5-7pm at the Aurora Ozone, with nibbles and a drink.
Following the survey and workshop conducted earlier this year, I have worked with the KI Arts Committee to develop an ‘Action Plan’. You are invited to come along and provide your feedback.
Actions identified include a facilities audit; professional development; art trail/open studio program; KI Arts website; and a shared arts space.
If you can attend, please call 8553 4525 to register or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
