Ash Whelan of Relationships Australia has been coming to Kangaroo Island for more than four years, bringing much needed assistance to community members adversely affected by gambling. Often he provides counsel to gamblers’ partners and children as well, as it is an issue that affects entire families.
His visits are every third Monday, and Mr Whelan works one-to-one, in a free and confidential service. “As this is a client-focused service, it’s often about more than gambling,” Mr Whelan said.
Due to KI’s isolation, he is able to back up his face-to-face sessions with follow-up via telephone counselling, between appointments.
Relationships Australia will be represented at the KI Field Day, so you can call by their exhibit to learn more.
On February 19, Mr Whelan and an associate Tia Walker, will facilitate a financial and gambling presentation at Junction Australia from 11.30am to 1pm. This is a free session and for more information you can contact the Southern office on 8377 5400 or contact Mr Whelan on 0404 017 426.
