James goes sky high

James Snowball of Emu Bay has gained the opportunity of a lifetime by achieving the Gliding Australia - Royal Australian Navy Gliding Association Scholarship.

It is awarded to a person who can demonstrate a strong commitment to aviation but has not experienced flying solo in any form of aircraft.

With just one scholarship awarded Australia-wide per year, James is still coming to terms with the fact that one of his career dreams, that of being a pilot, is now achievable, and may well blend perfectly with his other childhood dream of being a zoologist.

He recently completed his Year 10 workplace experience with Leeza and Dave Irwin and their team at Raptor Domain.

Having grown up showing an affinity for creatures that slide, crawl, fly, pinch and bite, James’s time at Raptor Domain reinforced his wish to work with wildlife of all types.

However, with his dream of becoming a pilot, and with the support of his school’s career guidance counsellor, Sandra Mitchell, James was introduced to gliding.

This scholarship may see him combine both his dreams and become Kangaroo Island’s first flying vet.
