Aussie photographers get snapping for nature
The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Australia is once again encouraging Aussies to get out and start snapping in a nationwide photography competition starting September 18.
Now in its fourth year, TNC Australia’s photo competition is open to photographers of all levels who enjoy capturing Australia’s natural beauty – whether it be the ocean, forests, deserts or rivers.
There’s more than $8,000 in prizes to be won – including a two-night stay at QT Gold Coast or QT Port Douglas courtesy of QT Hotels & Resorts, a $500 flight voucher, a $500 Earthscape Photography Tours voucher, $1,780 worth of camping equipment from Macpac and more than $1,500 worth of vouchers from Ted’s Cameras.
There is even the rare opportunity to have a one-on-one workshop with one of the competition judges.
TNC Australia Director Rich Gilmore said there’s no better way to get back to nature than grabbing your camera and embracing the photographer within.
“We’ve had so many entries over the years, with people from all corners of the country getting out and taking pictures of Australia’s beautiful scenery,” he said.
“This competition is a great chance for people to capture this beauty and properly appreciate nature – last year alone we received a massive 16,210 entries.”
The winners will have their work featured online, as well as being featured in a 2018 edition of Wild – Australia’s longest-running outdoor adventure magazine.
Entries will be judged by some of Australia’s most highly sought-after nature photographers: Ben Goode, Mark Seabury, Michael Snedic and Sera Wright.
Competition judge, highly-awarded photographer and 2016 winner Mark Seabury, is looking forward to seeing this year’s entries.
“I love competitions like this where people are encouraged to go out and give photography a go – you don’t need to be a professional snapper to win,” he said.
“It’s going to be different for me this year, being on the other side of the fence – I can’t wait to see what Australia produces.”
The competition aims to inspire Australians to engage with nature through photography, and celebrate Australia’s natural beauty.
Competition categories include landscape, wildlife, water, urban nature, people in nature, and whacky wildlife.
There will also be a People’s Choice winner, so even if you’re not a photographer, you will still be able to participate by voting for your favourite photo.
