The Kangaroo Island Hunt Club celebrated the winter solstice with a dawn hunt at David and Nell Hall’s Ti-Tree property.
A crisp early morning led into a day that held something for everyone.
Steady rain throughout the first half of the hunt was met with mixed emotions by the field.
Those who make a living from farming were very happy and all agreed that more rain would be a good thing.
There was however a certain ambivalence among the other riders, torn between wringing out their shirts and wishing for more rain for the farmers.
Things took a turn at stirrup cup, as the riders and followers were warmed by a hearty pancake breakfast.
The sun came out and all was well with the world.
Conditions were ideal for the remainder of the ride, providing the hunters with more than their money’s worth.
The club welcomed Tilly, Heidi and Louise, three new riders to their ranks.
The club hopes they enjoyed the experience and will come again.
The day ended with a chicken and Champagne early lunch.
The KI Hunt Club’s next event will be a trail ride on Sunday, July 8 down the western end.
