It was Western Districts turn to travel to Panther Park for the last minor round game. As it was the last game of football for the U12’s they were all keen to get a touch, the game was played in great spirit and it was a very even contest.
As the senior colts ran onto the ground the sun was shining and not a breath of wind this was to make for great conditions all day, the game itself was a one sided affair with Wisanger dominating all over the field coming in at the main break with a 12 goal lead, final score 18.17 to 1 goal. To Wonks credit they never gave up and their little tackers weren’t afraid to throw themselves at the bigger bodies to try and get a kick.
The Reserves was the most important game for the day as second spot was riding on the result, the game was a very tight contest with both sides giving their all. The ball was moving up and down the ground with good skills from both teams as you could see that both coaches wanted their teams to move the ball quickly. At three quarter time the game was anyone’s with a couple of points separating them, Wisanger kicked the first in a minute and then followed up with two more quick ones to open the game up, but Wonks weren’t finished and kept coming. Eventually after a great game Wisanger held on to win by a couple and keep second spot and the double chance 10.5 to 7.6.
The A grade started really well with both teams moving the ball from end to end with good skills on display in an even contest. Wonks had a one goal lead at quarter time and you could tell they wanted to lift, as the game went on their midfield players and defensive runners were starting to get on top and were making it hard for the Wisanger boys to score. The game itself was a great contest up until halftime with only four goals in it, but after halftime the guys from out west piled the pressure on and ran out comfortable winners 17.16 to 4.6.
Lastly good luck to all Footballers and Netballers for the finals and may the best teams win. – Craig Turner
