Six people so far have put their hands up to run as a candidate in the upcoming elections for Kangaroo Island Council.

The candidates who have nominated so far are on display at the council building at Kingscote.

Those nominating so far are current councillors Sharon Kauppila, Greame Ricketts and Ken Liu, while newcomers are Monique Hayward, Kevin Riggs and Graham Walkom.

The mayor is elected separately and so far only existing mayor Peter Clements has nominated himself to run.

Nominations close Tuesday, September 18, at 12 noon for the 2018 council elections.

This is the last chance to nominate, as electors in all councils across the state will soon be voting for their chosen candidates.

Electoral Commissioner Mick Sherry said this was your opportunity to make a difference and represent your local community.

Information about the nomination process is available on the Electoral Commission SA website at esca.sa.gov.au

Nominations will be declared shortly after 4pm on Tuesday, September 18 when the draw for position of candidate names on ballot papers is conducted in each council.

Voting in the council election closes at 5pm on Friday, November 9.
