The Kangaroo Island Dragons (KIDS) are ramping up practice sessions now daylight saving is here - paddlers will be on the water Wednesdays as well as Sundays.

“Daylight saving marks the beginning of the new season, and as we plan to enter a number of races around the region in the coming months – including the Masters in Port Pirie next year, we need to get fit and ready,” KIDS President Mary-Alice Swan said.

You can attend four Come and Try sessions for free throughout the year, and if you decide you want to take up the sport, then join the Club!

“We meet at the American River boat ramp on Sundays at 8.30am. The session starts with some warm up exercises, then everyone wheels the boat down into the water, and by 9.00am we are paddling. Our sessions last for one hour – and afterwards, we put on a well-earned morning tea.

“On Wednesdays we’ll meet at the boat ramp at 5.30pm to get onto the water by 6pm. Some people can’t get there until 5.50pm – but if we know they’re coming we wait.

“It’s a fantastic way to enjoy the best of the outdoors, get fit and meet new friends”.

The Club will also be staging the Mercure Dragon Boat Cup, planned for February 10, 2019.

We encourage businesses, organisations and groups on the Island to enter Corporate Cup teams.

All you need to do is come along for a few training sessions before the day so you know exactly what to do. It’s a lot of fun, and you get fit at the same time.

Come and try dragon boating. New paddlers are very welcome - and new members even more welcome.
