Islanders pedalling for the Great Cycle Challenge to kick cancer’s butt

A group of Kangaroo Island residents are cycling in this year’s Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids’ cancer.

They have entered at the IFM Cyclomaniacs and are being led by Sheree Geci of Island Fitness and Massage.

The crew at Island Fitness and Massage regularly participate in fundraising challenges.

Back in July, Sheree led a Island Fitness team in the Dry July fundraiser to raise funds for the KI Cancer Support Group.

This time it’s all about cycling and the IFM Cyclomaniacs have already completed 58 rides.

On the team is Fred Peters, who on in his 68th birthday on October 9 rode 68km in wet and windy conditions out to the Emu Bay and back with his wife Fleur.

“It was a great ride,” Fred said. “A few moments when we felt we were going backwards in the wind but.... for such a good cause and every time it hurt I just thought about all those kids and what they are going through.”

You can donate to the IFM Cyclomaniacs at the Great Cycle Challenge website

There are also collection tins around Kingscote including at Fine Art KI Gallery, Turner Fuel, Bella’s or Lori’s Web.
