Three young Kangaroo Island residents now have some additional cash and assistance to further their education and training.
The inaugural Yumbah Aquaculture Kangaroo Island YOUTH Employment Award was presented at the Variety V2 Motorbike Run community dinner at the Kingscote Town Hall on Friday, October 19.
The awards celebrate the contribution that youth make to local businesses and the economy of Kangaroo Island.
The winner of the Yumbah Aquaculture Kangaroo Island YOUTH Employment Award is Illija Porter-Baines, who works on the boats with Kangaroo Island Ocean Safari at Penneshaw.
Business owner Tony Coppins posted on the announcement on The Islander Facebook page.
“Well done Illija Porter-Baines - great achievement winning this award and very much deserved,” Mr Coppins said.
Illija will win receive a prize package including $1000 cash and a SeaLink travel voucher.
The winner of the Practical Consulting Group Kangaroo Island YOUTH Employee Achievement Award is Bridget Grimes, who works at the Rabbitt Warren Bakery in Kingscote.
Bridget will receive a prize package, including $500 cash and an Aurora Ozone Hotel Training and Development Package.
The winner of TAFE SA Kangaroo Island YOUTH Employee Achievement Award is Charlotte Nesfield, who works at the Dudley Winery.
Charlotte will receive a prize package including $500 cash and a TAFE SA Training Package.
The event’s proponent is Adelaide Training and Employment Centre (ATEC) – a service provider to businesses and employers, employees and job seekers, with local representation.
To be eligible for the award, applicants must be a youth between 12 and 24 years old and be completing further studies, either a traineeship, apprenticeship, TAFE, university, or other recognised training.
Applicants must also be working on Kangaroo Island, may be part-time, full-time or casual, including holiday employment.
They must also be a resident of Kangaroo Island, or if the youth employee now resides off Kangaroo Island, then they originally needed to reside on Kangaroo Island before leaving for further studies.
