The new Kangaroo Island council has provisionally been declared by the Electoral Commission of SA.

The new KI council will consist of Peter Denholm (289 first preference votes), Ken Liu (270 votes), Sharon Kauppila (248 votes), Shirley Pledge (244 votes), Sam Mumford (222 votes), Larry Turner (148 votes), Bob Teasdale (119 votes), Leeza Irwin (82 votes) and Graham Walkom (99 votes).

The mayoral race meanwhile was finalised on Saturday morning with challenger Michael Pengilly securing 1480 votes to incumbent Peter Clements with 765 votes.

Mayor-elect Michael Pengilly on Monday met with deputy CEO Greg Georgopoulos for 1.5 hours, as the CEO Andrew Boardman is on a week of scheduled leave.

Mr Pengilly said he was keen for the rest of the council to be sworn in so that the new council could “get on with it”.
