Turkey Lane Merinos offered its best ever line up of 47 high performance rams on Monday, November 12.
This was the final ram sale of the year for Kangaroo Island.
John and Jo Symons and Brian and Hannah Robins were very pleased with the ongoing support from repeat buyers as well as new buyers attended the sale.
They were proud that 91 per cent of the offering ranked within the top 10 per cent of merino rams in Australia for Australian Sheep Breeding Vales (ASBS) for FP+, DP+ and MP+ indexes.
“Our breeding objective and selection process has been to drive down micron, while increasing wool cut,” Hannah said.
“While we have had a big focus on performance, as this is the main profit driver, visual wool quality and structural soundness are also very important components of our breeding objective.”
Turkey Lane Merinos received a record price of $5700 purchased by Glencorrie Pty Ltd for 17-0007, which ranked in the top 1 per cent of Australia for all indexes (175 FP+, 197 MP+ and 202 DP+).
This ram has a clean fleece weight (CFW) 28.9 per cent and fibre diameter (FD) -2.2.
“Our strong emphasis on reducing micron, while increasing wool cut had the sale team average for CFW +18.4, FD -1.6, and WEC -16,” Hannah said.
“The sale far exceeded our expectations with strong competition throughout the sale with clearance of 91 per cent and average sale price of $2381, which doubled from last year.
“We are very grateful from the support of long-term and new clients which has made 2018 sale a great success.”
