An elderly visitor died after suffering a suspected medical-related incident at an American River accommodation place on Thursday afternoon, December 6.
Kangaroo Island SA Ambulance Service paramedics were called to the resort at 1.10pm after receiving reports that a man had been pulled from the swimming pool unconscious.
A SA Police spokesperson said the man regained consciousness for a time, and was being treated by crews from three ambulances.
The man however could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SA Ambulance Service did send out the MedSTAR helicopter that landed at the American River oval, with the KI SES and local American River CFS unit providing support.
It was a busy day for emergency services with a major bushfire at Gosse on the western end of KI, threatening Vivonne Bay.
This was the second time this week that the MedSTAR helicopter was sent to the Island, as it transported a local woman with a medical condition from the Penneshaw oval on Tuesday.
