The Parade took place at 6pm on Friday, December 21, 2018; the weather was very kind and the number of spectators was the best seen in a few years.
An extended Parade route with only a single lap was trialled this year and after feedback received, there will be a return to the shorter Dauncey Street circuit and two laps for Parade participants in future. Road closures by council, manned by Advance Kingscote and other volunteers, operated smoothly; the patience displayed by local drivers for this event is much appreciated by the organisers.
There was no Treasure Hunt this year, but the Street Chalk Art Drawing competition proved a great hit with the kids, with quite a few budding Rembrandts displaying their talent.
Participant numbers in the Parade were also excellent, with great effort evident in the presentation of the floats. A special thank you goes to the Walden family and the Men’s Shed; and for costuming, the Kangaroo Island Dance School continues to raise the bar higher and higher: well done!
The crowd was well looked after with numerous food stalls manned by local clubs and associations and also face painting for the young ones and after the Parade songs for young and old alike on the Queenie Green. Thanks to all involved for turning the Parade into a Pageant.
