It was difficult for Stokes to get to Parndana on time due to the massive head wind which made for interesting tennis conditions throughout the day.
Both teams had worked the phones to get enough players for the day with Parndana grabbing a couple of cricketers in Callum Bowell and Isaac Trethewey and Stokes importing Ryan Watters from Adelaide and elevating the talented first gamer Isaac Bowden.
The doubles got under way with Stokes getting out to an early lead. Caleb Pratt and Ben Demertzis for Stokes showed no gallantry in dispatching Alicia Cooper and Courtney Trethewey 9-1.
Mark Bowden and Ryan Watters from Stokes went easier on Adam Bussenschutt and Ben Fontayne winning 9-3 in a game that at times resembled the big bash.
The Stanton cousins in Michael and Fi had a good hit with Kate Murray and the ever smiling Tarryn Putland from Parndana but Stokes got this one as well 9-5.
The last double pitched the old hand Sarah McCormack with the new recruit Isaac Bowden against the Parndana cricket lads in Callum and Isaac.
It was a great game to watch, which included volleys from the back of the court, cricket shots and plenty of laughter.
Parndana was too good in the end winning 9-4 and giving some hope to Parndana crew.
Parndana started the singles with high hopes but Stokes soon squashed it. The import for Stokes in Ryan took on the in form Bussy for the top single.
Bussy had earlier smashed his racquet going for a big serve and was still trying to come to terms with a new racquet.
Ryan showed no mercy and won 6-1. Mark for Stokes played the backpacker in Ben who looked to have form. Mark got the early break and suggested that Ben use a better racquet.
Ben then won the next game, at which point Mark took back the racquet and won the rest of the games 6-1.
Caleb was also not in a generous mood after a massive night and sported sunnies all day. He only let Alicia have two games and decided some hair of the dog would remedy the situation.
Michael for Stokes was even stingier not letting poor Courtney have a game. Ben and Fiona for Stokes won against Kate and Tarryn 6-2,6-1 respectively.
Finally the two singles everyone was wanting to watch, it was Parndana’s cricketers In Callum and Isaac against the budding tennis champs in Sarah and Isaac.
Callum showed some good cover drives and down the pitch hitting against Sarah’s elegant forehand and backhand combinations. Callum restored some pride to the Parndana team with a good win 6-2.
Finally the two Isaacs played each other. Both playing for the first time, it was a battle of who could make less mistakes.
The older Isaac for Parndana had a bit more cunning and reach, but the younger Isaac for Stokes had plenty of dash and uncanny shots.
It was the older Isaac for Parndana though who prevailed 6-3.
Stokes had a day winning lead after the singles and so the mixed doubles was played after a few bevvies and in great spirits.
Well done to all that filled in to make the day happen and especially to the first game Isaacs, who showed great tennis promise.
