Telstra has confirmed its new Gosse/Stokes Bay mobile phone tower at Roo Lagoon on the Playford Highway west of Parnadana is now switched on and fully functional.

The Islander was however contacted by a resident on the North Coast Road near Stokes Bay wanting to know if it was working as they had not noticed an improvement. Other residents at Gosse however report improved service.

Telstra’s SA regional general manager Mark Bolton said terrain or trees could be blocking the signal for the the Stokes Bay resident about 25 kilometres away.

"While the new Telstra mobile tower located near Gosse has significantly improved mobile coverage to this part of Kangaroo Island, the extent of its coverage can be impacted by a number of factors such as distance, terrain or trees," he said.

There were a number of Telstra compliant products available, such as antennas and mobile phone boosters, that can help improve mobile coverage, he said.
