Bailey Gaskin has just been announced as the South Australian Aboriginal Sports Training Academy's first ever student based on Kangaroo Island.
Bailey will be doing the Stage 1, Aboriginal Studies curriculum and Certificate III in Sports & Recreation Certificate.
This will be the first of hopefully many Aboriginal students living on Kangaroo Island participating in the SAASTA program.
It is not a scholarship but a pathway for him as an Indigenous student to complete his SACE. He is the first for KI and hopefully the other 16 KI Community Education Indigenous students can follow in his footsteps.
SAASTA's aim is to encourage every student to aim high by raising the bar of expectation they place on themselves and their peers in areas such as attendance, participation, educational achievement and behaviour.
Because of this approach, students are considered ambassadors and role models who represent not only SAASTA but their schools, families and communities.
