Mazda MX-5 club members from SA and Victoria sampled the unique sights and tastes of Kangaroo Island during the two clubs' biennial get-together on April 3-7.

The five-day event, organised by Lynne and Roger Trethewey and Poppy and Dennis Hawkins from the SA host club, commenced with wine tasting and welcome barbeque dinner at Bay of Shoals Winery.

Over the next three days, 34 MX-5s split into two groups could be seen visiting Seal Bay, the Raptor Domain, Frogs Roses, KI Spirits, Emu Bay Lavender Farm, the Visitor Centre, Admiral's Arch and Remarkable Rocks in Flinders Chase National Park, Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery, Pennington Bay, Dudley Wines and Penneshaw.

Driving between these iconic locations in the world's most popular, affordable and reliable sportscar, on bitumen roads largely devoid of traffic, was a sheer delight.

While based in Kingscote, participants enjoyed whiting, chips and salad at the KI Yacht Club, thanks to KI Fresh Seafoods, and dinner at the Ozone Hotel.

In Penneshaw, fond farewells were said at the final dinner in Penny's Restaurant, or at breakfast next morning in the KI Seafront Motel where most of the attendees stayed overnight before travelling back to the mainland or to Kingscote for an extra few days in order to experience more KI attractions.

The 2019 Mazda MX-5 Clubs' Biennial get-together was declared a resounding success.

"In addition to the wonderful hospitality and high standard of service we encountered at every venue, everyone found the Island's natural beauty and local produce amazing," Mr Threthewey said.

"Participants visiting KI for the first time or decades ago will undoubtedly return in future to do some of the things not included in this year's event program, so be on the lookout for them."
