In what has to be a first, Kingscote bowlers have taken out three of the six events at Bowls SA 2019 Country Carnival.
March 25 signalled the start of the lawn bowls at the Bowls SA 2019 Country Carnival, where male and female lawn bowlers from all country areas in South Australia converge on Adelaide to compete against each other in three disciplines.
These being fours, pairs and singles. Bowlers first compete in a sectional draw where each bowler plays three games and the winners of each section continues to play other sectional winners but in a knock out format.
If a bowler is fortunate to win four knock out games, then she/he progresses to the semi finals and then to the final. Reaching this stage is very difficult and winning it unbelievable.
So when three out of six finals are won by members from a little club on Kangaroo Island, called Kingscote, boasting just 50 members it becomes something special.
Winning the female fours were Mary Glasson, Michelle Barrett, Gayle Steinwedel and Judy Bell.
Winning the men's pairs were Peter MacLean and Daryl Steinwedel.
Winner of the female singles was Michelle Barrett.
Also special was the support these players gave to each other and received from other Islander competitors already knock out and past Islanders hearing of this event evolving into something unique attending the games to give their support.
Again congratulations to Mary, Michelle, Gayle and Judy; Peter and Daryl and Michelle, who completed a magical double winning the female singles and being part of the female fours.
All competitors attending the Country Carnival are richer for the experience and the making of new friends and catching up with old ones. See you all next year!
