Kangaroo Island has a new variety shop offering a range of items from stationary, art and craft items, pet supplies, hardware and auto items, giftware and more.
Island Variety is located in the Kangaroo Island Bakery building on Dauncey Street in the central business district of Kingscote.
Business owner Caroline Bilston moved to KI in 1996 and worked at the bakery then owned by the Loechel family.
She worked there for 10 years before buying it from Wayne Loechel about six years ago.
Then last year she decided it was time close the bakery as it did not allow her time away and she wants to spend more time with her mother on the mainland.
"In the last six years, I never got two or even three days off in a row," she said. "I needed to find something that was a bit more flexible and something that the Island needed."
When thinking of what do with the building, she thought there was a not a shop on KI that stocked a wide-range of affordable items.
It also meant to be a place where kids and adults can go to hang out with an arcade room and also a lounge area.
Working with her is manager Matthew Dixon, who also used to work at the bakery.
They have received a really good response from the community and have plans to expand further back into the building, once the big, old oven is removed.
