Kaput, the multi-award winning family show has melted hearts of all ages around the world with its glorious brand of slapstick, acrobatics and total silliness.
Kaput is touring regional South Australia through Country Arts SA's Shows On The Road program, including one night only at Parndana on Kangaroo Island on Thursday, June 27.
Be swept up in the mayhem that is the larger-than-life "elegant buffoon" Tom Flanagan, as one man's life is flipped upside-down by the lonely, dust-covered world that surrounds him. This clumsy 'Mr. Fixit' takes one step forward and two-steps back in a highly skilled, hilariously funny and beautifully poignant bit of madness.
"Regional tours are some of my absolute favourite experiences as a performer," Tom said. "Even though I've been around the world with Kaput I always find the communities in regional Australia the most warm and fun to play to. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone around SA."
Country Arts SA is committed to providing the opportunity for more communities to access professional touring performances and host performances in their towns. The Shows On The Road program endeavours to support existing patrons and also to discover new audiences and encourage engagement with the Arts.
Sarah Kemp, director of Smart Future Creating and volunteer on the KI Country Arts SA Presenter Group is excited about the show coming to the Island.
"Kangaroo Island's isolation means that we often miss out on the opportunity to engage with the performing arts," she said. "Our town halls - once the centre of the community and host of so many performances and events - are now sadly an under-utilised resource. We are very excited to be working with Country Arts SA to bring Kaput over, and it's the perfect fit for Parndana, reminiscent of the community pantomimes that the soldier settlers and their families put together in times past."
Kaput, Tom's first solo show opened early 2012 to a premier sold-out season at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in the Garden of Unearthly Delights, where it was nominated for Best Circus & Physical Theatre. It then went on to receive critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where the show won Mervyn Stutter's Spirit of the Fringe Award, and was listed by the Scotsman as one of the top 5 comedy shows at the Fringe.
Since then Tom Flanagan's silent slapstick acrobatic comedy show Kaput has toured four continents, won countless awards and collected fans from 5 to 95 years old.
The Kangaroo Island show is 6.30pm on Thursday, June 27 at the Parndana Town Hall.
