Kangaroo Island Spirits wins Double Gold at international SIP Awards

Kangaroo Island Spirits late last week won Double Gold at the world's only internationally recognised consumer judged competition, the SIP Awards in California.

The Double Gold is the highest accolade of the international awards and KIS won the award for three of its gins.

This news comes off the back of their win for "Best in Show" at the Australian Gin Awards just over a month ago.

This huge win signifies a milestone for the owners, Sarah and Jon Lark, as their Kangaroo Island gin distillery is now one of the highest awarded gin brands in the Australian gin market.

Out of the 977 different brands entered across 93 categories at the awards, KIS secured Double Gold for three of their gins, Gold and Silver awards and an innovation award.

All KIS gins that were entered also attained the Consumer's Choice award, an honour reserved to products that place bronze or better for two consecutive years.

With awards for Kangaroo Island Spirits gins reaching double digit figures for this year alone, this latest international win is one of the highest accolades for Australia's oldest dedicated gin distillery.

The SIP Awards stand apart from other spirits tournaments as it is the only internationally recognised consumer judging spirits competition, where discerning consumers blindly judge each entry, unaffected by any industry bias.

Sarah and Jon commented, "We are excited that our small distillery continues to lead the industry and are blown away by the accolades we have received for our gins.

"We put it down to a passionate, team that work together to create gins inspired by our Island paradise.

"We will be raising our glasses to Granny Smith, who inspired our love for gin, but sadly passed away just shy of her 100th birthday last year."

Sarah and Jon Lark owe their notable success on both a national and international scale to keeping their production quantities small, which ensures optimum quality.

The distillery uses traditional methods in their production where all ingredients are distilled in a single run as opposed to the simpler blended process so often seen today.

The Double Gold winners were KIS O Gin, KIS Whisky Barrel Gin and KIS Old Tom Gin.
