New data released in last month's COAG National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Quarterly Report shows more than 700 Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island residents are now benefitting from the NDIS.

The NDIS, which became available in the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island region in January 2018, provides funding for supports and services for locals with a permanent and significant disability.

There will be another Kangaroo Island NDIS consultation from 1pm to 3pm on Wednesday, June 12 at the council chambers in Kingscote.

Kerrell-ann Hack, National Disability Insurance Agency director of provider market engagement, will follow up on outcomes from the last meeting.

"The strong opinion from last meeting is that the community would like a 'hub'," she said. "My definition of 'hub' is as simple as - a known location for all things that would have many uses (yet to be fully defined).

"A place to meet , a place of sharing, a place for therapy, a place to see clients. A guaranteed place that is a resource for knowledge sharing and connection. Let's brain storm what this can look like and where this could be!"

National Disability Insurance Agency acting deputy CEO, Scott McNaughton, said the figures highlighted the impact the NDIS was having on local communities.

"The NDIS is empowering 762 local people in the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island region," Mr McNaughton said.

"The NDIS continues to support Australians with a disability to achieve their goals.

"More than 27,400 people are receiving support across South Australia, including more than 12,700 people receiving supports for the first time."

The total number of participants now benefitting from the NDIS nationwide is more than 277,000.

The Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island region covers the Local Government Areas of Alexandrina, Kangaroo Island, Victor Harbor and Yankalilla.
