Kangaroo Island residents for the next five years will be able to enjoy $99 flights to Adelaide on Rex airlines.

Regional Express (Rex) and the KI Council have entered into a five-year partnership agreement through until June 30, 2023.

The partnership agreement will see the introduction of the Rex Community Fare scheme between Kangaroo Island and Adelaide.

The agreement will see the introduction of a $99 one-way Rex Community Fare, available on the morning flights from KI and the evening flights from Adelaide, in addition to the middle of the day flights in both directions.

Rex will be making available a minimum of 25 per cent of seats on the nominated flights for advanced booking outside of 30 days prior to departure.

In addition, all remaining seats within 24 hours to prior departure will be available at the Community Fare (Rex Promo) level on the nominated flights.

Rex general manager of Network Strategy and Sales, Warrick Lodge said the package was tailored to KI.

"Kangaroo Island is the 15th regional community to receive the successful Rex Community Fare scheme, and for Kangaroo Island we have tailored the scheme to deliver the maximum benefit to the local community," he said

"Kangaroo Island residents will be able to use the Community Fare for day-return travel to Adelaide and the inclusion of the middle of the day services will deliver benefits to both the local community and visitors to Kangaroo Island".

"I would like to thank Kangaroo Island Council, under the leadership of Mayor Michael Pengilly and acting CEO Greg Georgopoulos, for working with Rex to improve the relationship and to establish this five-year partnership agreement that will deliver immediate socio-economic benefits to the Kangaroo Island community."

Mr Pengilly said the partnership would make a big difference for Island residents and hopefully boost traffic through the new KI airport.

"This really is a great outcome for the community. It represents a considerable reduction on the standard lowest priced fare - over 30 per cent," he said.

"By making the trip more affordable, it goes a long way towards improving access to the mainland for Islanders.

"This is what people want and I'm delighted we've been able to reach this agreement with Rex".
