The KI Airport will soon feature a new retrospective exhibition featuring artwork created by KI Art Society members, current and former.

The Kangaroo Island Art Society turned 30 in 2018. And the Island art community would love your help to widely celebrate this milestone!

Since 1988 many resident artists have been supported by the Art Society.

The society's KI Gallery has operated continuously throughout this time, winning a SA Great Regional Award for community contribution.

It has held annual exhibitions including Year 12 art offerings, run workshops and participated in community projects to diversify skills, and encouraged some local residents to participate in art activities for the very first time.

Recently the KI Gallery held a special celebration aimed at its members, to launch April's limited retrospective exhibition of current and previous members' work. We are keen to expand this by holding a special off-site exhibition at the newly upgraded airport.

This will promote the KI Gallery and give our community, sponsors and visitors an even deeper appreciation of the work of KI Art Society over three decades of achievement, and showcase the talents of the many member artists who have come through the gallery during this time.

Our aim is to reprise the retrospective adding the works of members that were not included in April. Who do you know, that should be part of this?

The KI Council and airport curator Fleur Peters are convening the exhibition from mid-July to end of August.

Fleur is keen to hear from you with details of your work, or work you may have of another member who is no longer with us.

We hope to display a significant past work for each member and for any current members who wish to do so, pair this with a more recent work. What you did then? What are you doing now?

For artists no longer with us Fleur is aiming for a single recognisable piece.

Artwork will be hung on the professional wall systems in the Airport corridor and Departure Gate 1/2.

It is preferable that you email her an images, smart phone is adequate, and she will confirm what is to be included in the final catalogue. Wall hung, and limited amounts of three D works, will be considered. All work will need to be delivered to the Airport on Tuesday, July 9.

Current works, or older pieces if they are yours, can be for sale. A commission of 35 per cent will be levied and shared with KI Art Society. All sales will be handled by Fleur. You must email Fleur by June 29. Selections will be confirmed by July 4.

We look forward to your support, and to seeing you at a launch event.
